Enjoy the pleasant surroundings of country store collectables and antique toys, while watching the artist and his wife at work, creating original, and one of a kind wood carvings.
Let Jim and Margie help you with your wood carving needs, and plan to attend one of their seminars on woodcarving techniques. Their shop carries wood carving tools and supplies and offers a complete sharpening service.

Jim Maxwell is the author of four wood carving books, featuring dozens of original patterns with step-by-step carving instructions. Also included are the painting instructions by Margie Maxwell. Additional books will be published in the future with more patterns and painting instructions.
The downtown shop is housed in a historic building and also known as the Buzzard's Roost Woodcarving Shop. Inside the shop is Jim and Margie's work area along with their original woodcarvings from a couple of inches to a few feet in size. There are several started blanks that can be purchased and finished with the accompaining instructions. Copies of all of his books are available in the shop. In addition, Jim hosts several seminars in his shop for woodcarvers throughout the year. These seminars are attended by woodcarvers from a wide area.

Visiting Maxwell's Woodcarving shop is enjoyable from the moment you walk up to the front of the store with a carved indian and flower pots outside. Once inside, there are carvings all around by the Maxwell's who are also very willing to explain what the pieces are and some of what goes into making them into the show pieces that they are.

You may call us for more information at 660-668-2466, but you will get much more information by stopping by. We are here Monday thru Saturday, from 10 AM till 5 PM unless the weather is too cold. Heating this old historic building is difficult, in which case we may not open the shop for the day.
